M.S. University of Wyoming 2018; B.S. 2015

I am currently a Biological Science Laboratory Technician under Dr. Gayle Volk with the USDA-ARS: National Laboratory for Genetic Resource Preservation.

Next fall I start my graduate assistant position with Dr. Per McCord in the Department of Horticulture at Washington State University. My focus will be on bud hardiness and the genetics of fruit quality traits in Prunus avium (Sweet Cherry). For more information on current research with the USDA-ARS and WSU Department of Horticulture click here.

Before coming to Washington State University, I was a graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming Department of Botany, working with Dr. Steven L. Miller on the Wyoming Apple Project. The project used molecular techniques (SSRs) to identify apple trees in historic orchards, homesteads and nurseries from late 19th and early 20th century plantings. I completed a M.S. in Dr. Steven L. Miller's Lab, where I focused on using genetic information to study apple (Malus domestica) diversity, parentage and cultivar success. This will allow specialty crop and breeding programs to select existing cultivars to improve cold tolerance in apple cultivars.

In addition, I extracted DNA and identified cultivars (when possible) for two thousand samples from Eldorado National Forest, Redwood National Forest, Yosemite National Park, Temperate Orchard Conservancy, Montezuma Orchard Restoration ProjectSeed Savers Exchange, Cornell University, Washington State University and Ohio State in conjunction with Dr. Gayle M. Volk of the USDA ARS: NLGRP in Fort Collins, CO.

Most of my research has direct applications to conservation, breeding and has involved collaboration and work with the USDA-ARS in Fort Collins. CO.
